Volunteer – Group Champion
Location: Derbyshire
Salary: This is an unpaid role. Reimbursement: Any out of pocket expenses will be paid.
Hours: 3-6 per week
Aims:
To work with our peer led mental health support groups around the county of Derbyshire, to encourage
and support new members to attend the groups, help support the groups to be safe and fun
environments, help to promote the group, help the group to continue to offer supportive and
welcoming forums for anyone who is affected by mental illness.

The role is still under development and is a new way to get involved with our peer led support groups, if
you have got lived experience of a mental illness or if you have an interest in mental health, perhaps
you want to work in the sector, give something back, help with building your CV, or if you have some

helping new group members to take part and engage with other likeminded individuals in their local
area.
The ideal candidate:
Will be able to offer 6-16 plus hours per month, be friendly, supportive, understanding of people with
mental ill health and be able to hold confidences.
Support: Support will be provided from the Peer and Volunteer Coordinator, one of three Group
Development Workers and our Service Manager.
Training: There is a full package of training available from Rethink Mental Illness and from other external sources such as Derbyshire County Council.
Enhanced Disclosure & Barring Service:
All volunteers can have an Enhanced Disclosure & Barring Service check, this will be funded by the
Derbyshire Recovery and Peer Support Service.
Reach:
The groups are Derbyshire wide, wherever you live in the county of Derbyshire we aim to grow groups
near you, (exception – Derby City)
Passion:
We are passionate about creating a diverse workforce and positively encourage applications from a
wide and varies demographic and as a volunteer and group champion you would be a valued
member of the team, you would help our facilitators build membership in the mental health self-help
groups. To ensure the new members to feel welcomed and help them integrate into the group by
encouraging them to engage the group activities.
