Overview

We are looking for volunteers to become crew members on our Tip Boat. Crew members operate within the cabin of the boat and on the tow path. Your duties with include welcoming passengers on board, serving hot and cold drinks and pre-packed snacks, assisting passengers if needed, providing commentary during the journey and answering questions about the history of the canal and the boat. You will also need to look after the boat by making sure it is clean and fully stocked.

The rules governing the operation of the boat insist that a crew member is also available on the Tow Path to follow the boat on foot. This would mean a walk of 2.5 miles on a half day and 5 miles on a full day, along a flat level path at a speed of approximately 1.5 miles an hour. You will also need to be able to operate the swing bridge at High Peak Junction. On some days the boat will be be pulled by a horse and the operating system will be slightly different.

WHAT ARE FRIENDS OF THE CROMFORD CANAL LOOKING FOR?

Enthusiasm and commitment are the foremost requirements. Training will be provided for your role, and although first aid qualifications and a RYA certificate are most welcome, they are not necessary to volunteer with us.
