Overview

Do you have an hour to spare each week?  Could you help primary school aged children to read?

Schoolreaders volunteers are matched to a local primary school, where they visit weekly and listen to children read individually to help support and develop the children’s reading and comprehension skills. We do not ask for any previous experience or specific skills but all volunteers must be over 18, have good written and spoken English and be able to commit to visiting their matched school during term times for at least a year (although holiday sand appointments can be taken during this time)

About Schoolreaders

Schoolreaders goal is for all children, regardless of background, to leave primary school to be able to read well so they can go on to access their secondary education fully and maximise their future life chances.  Just ten minutes a week with one of our volunteers has been shown to improve children’s reading fluency, comprehension and enjoyment. It also gives them valuable time with an adult who is not a teacher or parent which aids their social skills.
